About Stonescape ContractingA committment to quality inspired James Nantais to form his own company, Stonescape Contracting, in 1994. At the time, he'd worked on masonry and stone work projects for several years in Ontario and then continued his career when he moved to Nanaimo in 1991. By 1994 he was ready to start his own company, where he could control how the work was done. "I wanted to do the jobs my way - do the type of quality work and complete the projects the way they should be done," he explained. His goal was to do high quality installations and complete projects on time and on budget. This required developing excellent customer relations, hiring the right people, implementing the right management systems, and acquiring the right equipment. The company started with one employee and now employs between seven and 10 people, depending on the time of year. Linda Nantais also works for the family-run business, handling accounting and payroll.
Ongoing education and certification is an important part of Stonescape's success. Stonescape Contracting Ltd. is an ICPI certified paving installer in Nanaimo and also holds level II certification for retaining wall installations. James has also taken courses in construction law, project management.. All of the company's foremen have their first aid ticket. Stonescape Contracting Ltd. is a member of the Canadian Home Builders Association, the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce, and the Mid-Island Construction Association. James is a past director of CHBA-Nanaimo. The company is a corporate sponsor of the Nanaimo Senior A Timberman (Lacrosse) team and employs some of the Timberman athletes during their off season. Stonescape has been a past sponsor of the Raiders and of youth soccer. Stonescape Contracting Ltd. is part of the giveback program for Nanaimo Affordable Housing.
